Why not just use Gmail, WhatsApp and Google Drive?
Because there you are not the customer – you are the product. Your messages, emails and files are scanned and analysed to sell you ads and train models. With your own server, only you and the people you talk to have access to them.
Is it expensive?
No. For a home installation a small, energy-efficient computer is enough, and the electricity costs a few euros a year. Hosting starts at €8.58 a month incl. VAT (€7.15 excl. VAT) per service on a 24-month contract – see the plans.
Do I need to know Linux?
No. With hosting we maintain everything. With a home installation we can also take over maintenance – and if you want to learn something new, we will show you how to manage it yourself.
Can I keep my old emails, files and contacts?
Yes. We move your mail, files, calendar and contacts over from Gmail, Outlook, Google Drive, Dropbox and others.
What is XMPP, and can I chat with people on other servers?
XMPP is an open chat standard used by thousands of servers worldwide. Email from one provider reaches another, and XMPP works the same way: you send from your own server to any other XMPP user, wherever they are registered.
How does the switch work?
First we set up and test the new services while the old ones keep running. Then we move your mail, files, calendar and contacts and point your domain to the new server. Chats from Viber and WhatsApp cannot be moved – there you invite the people you talk to to get an XMPP address.
Will I be locked in with you?
No. We only use open-source software and open standards. You can take your data and move to another provider or your own server at any time.
